Do you have questions, comments, concerns about Being Onely in a couple-oriented world? Want to alert us to a book/magazine/movie/etc. that we should review for this blog? Simply have a rant? We'll be happy to respond (since we're the ones who made up the word)! Either email us at: onely @ onely.org, or tab over to the "Being Onely" page and submit a comment.
What we mean when we say “heteronormative”:
We use "heteronormative" to mean the hegemonic perspective that normalizes coupled relationships. "Heteronormative" historically refers to a perspective that fails to recognize “alternative” gender and sexual identities. At Onely, we believe that heteronormativity also fails to recognize those of us who prefer living alone to coupling. (See also our About Onely page.)
AMEN to that!
