Copious Readership,
Do you think your single life is just fine? Or even–gasp–GOOD? Yes? Well, then you might want to help the Alternatives to Marriage Project by being a spokesperson.

AtMP maintains a database of unmarried people who are willing to talk about their lives with journalists who are working on articles or news pieces about marriage, cohabitation, and related topics. I said I wanted to do a solo trip. The other day I walked from my townhouse to my car and saw people of all ages swarming over the grassy knoll in front of our street, giggling and shouting and walking and standing. I recognized a neighbor from the other end of our row of houses, who I only knew from waving distance. She approached me, a petite woman holding the hand of a little toddling girl. (more…)

On Saturday, I attended a luncheon at the Fairfax Country Club (there is no way to not make that sound snooty–but if I say the event raised money for scholarships, does that help?) where Susan Fraser King, Ellen Byerrum, Mary Kay Ricks, Stephen Goodwin and Jim Lehrer talked about their recent books and about writing in general. All the authors were entertaining speakers and I left lusting after each of their books.
However, the hostess in her intro made an interesting unOnely remark: (more…)
