Hi everyone —
Check out Christina’s latest post at Change.org, which is about singlism, family planning, and women’s ability to become astronauts.

As a follow-up to my below Spurrious Rhetoric post, I feel compelled to acknowledge that buried in Dr. Pam Spurr’s singlist article is this one conciliatory, cover-your-ass sentence fragment: “Although, granted, there are some truly happy single women, the majority. . . ”
But at the beginning of her post she says she doesn’t believe that “any” single women are happy. So which is it? (more…)

Whoa, this you tube video shows the kind of behavior that gives all single women a bad name, that makes people think all we want in life is to land a man. And it gives the media yet another excuse to perpetuate this myth: note how they flag the perp’s “single” status in the news headline:

Onely Update October 30, 2008

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to drop a quick line to warn ya’ll (yes that’s how we talk in Kentucky!) that posting on this site may slow down slightly in the next month or so, as both Christina and I (I especially!) have found ourselves swamped with “real life” work. The last month of any semester always proves insanely busy for me, so I don’t expect to post more than once a week until approximately December 12th (unless I magically find time to do so!). Just wanted to warn you.
C & I agreed, however, that this should allow us to do more perusing of your blogs and perhaps others, so we’ll be reading and commenting on your work in the meantime! And of course if you have thoughts/comments/ideas that you’d like for us to write about here, we’re always happy to oblige!

OK, before (some of) you gag — this post is not actually about the wonders of shoe shopping. No — instead, it’s about how going shoe shopping recently reminded me to remember and relish my Oneliness (how’s that for some alliteration?!). (more…)

Hello all our faithful readers (or… not so faithful, whatever – we don’t care, so long as you’re reading)!
Christina and I have been discussing how we want to shape the future of Onely. We have both been having a lot of fun writing, thinking, reading your comments, and etc. over the past two months. We’re looking forward to many more months, years, days, weeks (etc.) to come!
That being said, my semester is about to start (for those of you who haven’t read the “About Us” page, I’m in a Ph.D. program in Louisville Kentucky, and I teach AND take classes during the school year, so I’m about to get super-busy), and so we have agreed that, in order to make sure we’re both posting consistently and keeping you (our readers) happy, we have decided to commit to at least 4 (total) posts per week, and possibly more depending on how energetic we’re feeling. Also, new posts will probably appear on weekdays more often than weekends.
And while we’re at it, if you have specific ideas/request/suggestions for our site, feel free to comment here and/or send us an email — we will be happy to revise our site as needed to make you happy!!
So stay tuned – we’ve got a lot to say here at Onely, and we’re happy you’re reading! 🙂

Christina and I are meeting up in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula this week so she can teach me sailing and for a mini-backpacking trip to North Manitou Island. We hope you won’t miss us too much during our week-long hiatus, but we hope in the meantime you’ll read and comment on our earlier posts!
Have a great week everyone. We know we will! 🙂

Confused about men? Get you a Manslation! July 2, 2008

OK so this post could possibly seem contradictory, because obviously the Manslator is geared to help women “understand” men, and, well that seems pretty heteronormative doesn’t it? … But the honest truth is, I’m addicted to this site. It’s a little bit like candy. Not only is Jeff Mac (aka Manslator Extraordinaire) funny (hell, he’s supposed to be; he’s a freakin’ comedian), his responses – even to the wackiest situations – are consistently intelligent and respectful of the women who are … confused, for whatever reason. And I think that all of us – Onely or not – can admit to being confused about man-havior at times. So check Manslations out — there’s a new posting every week day. Plus he agreed to add Onely to his blog roll, kind person that he is. So welcome, Manslations readers! Hope you enjoy this site (and we also hope you’ll tell your friends/families/enemies about us)! — L
