On our post about dating sites capitalizing on National Singles Week, we tagged chemistry.com. Probably in response to our tag, a chemistry.com solicitor whom I shall call “J” (short for his name, not for “Jerk”) offered to hook me and Lisa up with eligible men for seven free days! Wooeeee!

“Dear Onely,” he says, “I noticed that your blog discusses the challenges that single women go through in today’s hectic world of dating.” Oh, J, you’re so sensitive! Are you available? (more…)

Copious Readership, how would YOU have responded to these rude questions?

“So when are YOU getting married?” I got this question from a woman I had met five minutes earlier, after she heard that our mutual friend was engaged. (more…)

Onely: by Chance or by Choice? Christina’s Perspective August 29, 2008

To answer my own question, I’m Onely by chance AND by choice!

I don’t have a lot of CHANCES to meet men. For years, chronic health problems have forced me to spend a lot of time lying down. If I don’t get a four-hour nap on Saturday and a four-hour nap on Sunday, I will likely have trouble functioning during the subsequent workweek.  I can’t drink alcohol. I can’t do cardio sports unless I have days of recovery time. I can only go out one night a weekend unless I want to risk consequences. That’s all chance.  BUT: (more…)

Thanks, friendly readers, for your very interesting comments! In fact, there are a couple that we want to get back to, but first, the most recent one, posted by Cynthia in response to this post written by Christina (I’ve cut to the final portion of the comment, btw, because it seemed the most relevant):

It’s not too clear to me though which one bothers you more? Being judged or being asked why still single?

One of the thrills of having a WordPress-sponsored blog is that we can see how our readers come to find our blog. In other words, we can see what google searches end up “hitting” our site. One of the most frequent and popular searches so far? “Confused about men” [or some variation thereof]. Of course this is because that’s the title of one of our earlier posts, “Confused about Men? Get you a Manslation!” when we plugged another blog with a completely different focus (likely the one you’re looking for, we admit).

We find this eternally amusing, but just to throw everyone off we figured we’d write another post with a similar title so you’d end up here… We think you must have ended up here thanks to some higher powers, and with this in mind here’s what we advise:

Stop worrying about men! Read our amazing blog!!!

We hope you enjoy Onely! 🙂

L & C

p.s. we have the same message for all you people searching for “nut sucking” (you know who you are!),  which tracks to this hilarious post by Christina. Don’t be shy… we want you to read our site too!!!

Whether you love or hate Hillary Clinton, this kind of effort by the Bush administration affects everyone. Please read Clinton’s blog posting about a set of regulations set to put in place the labels all kinds of contraceptives – including birth control, IUDs, and emergency contraception – as “abortion.” There is a petition you can sign, too (at the end of the rhreality post):

I’m glad Christina went ahead and posted about what we have been discussing between ourselves; we are both ambivalent about whether or not it’s possible to describe the state of being Onely without framing it in relation to previous relationships/dating experiences. But the truth is, I think that Christina and I have both arrived at our current place, writing for this blog, because of the happiness we’ve discovered as a result of not being in relationships. In fact, I’d even argue that if it hadn’t been for being happy in our previous relationships, we wouldn’t understand how valuable it is to now be happy by ourselves today. For me personally, having previously been in a six-year relationship that took up most of my 20s, I couldn’t have imagined that I would be this happy being single agin. I think that my past (long-term, committed, and happy) relationship is fundamental to me being – and preferring to be – Onely today.

But none of this has seems to have anything to do with bad dates just yet, does it? (more…)
